The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is the main investigative committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. Since 2023 it has become the principal forum in Congress for public hearings on UFOs and unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP).[1][2]
The committee

The committee was created in 1927 as the Committee on Expenditures in the Executive Departments, became the Committee on Government Operations in 1952, and has been renamed several times since. Its jurisdiction includes the federal civil service, the postal service, the National Archives and government reorganisation, and it has broad power to investigate the executive branch. James Comer of Kentucky has chaired it since January 2023.[1]
UAP hearings

- 26 July 2023: a subcommittee hearing, "Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Implications on National Security, Public Safety, and Government Transparency", heard former intelligence officer David Grusch, who said the government had recovered non-human craft, and Navy pilots David Fravor and Ryan Graves.[2]
- 13 November 2024: "Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Exposing the Truth" heard retired rear admiral Tim Gallaudet, former Pentagon official Luis Elizondo, former NASA official Michael Gold and journalist Michael Shellenberger, who described an alleged program called Immaculate Constellation.[3]
- 2025: the committee's Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, chaired by Anna Paulina Luna, held a hearing in September 2025 on UAP transparency and whistleblower protection.[1][4]
Impact

The hearings drew wide public attention but produced no physical evidence of non-human craft, and the Pentagon's AARO said in 2024 that it had found no evidence for the reverse-engineering programs described by witnesses. Members of the committee, including Luna and Tim Burchett, continued to press for disclosure, which preceded the 2026 release of government UFO files.[5][6]
