John Ford was a court officer in Suffolk County, New York, who founded the Long Island UFO Network in the 1980s.
Claims and arrest
Ford promoted claims that a UFO had crashed or been shot down near Moriches Bay and Southaven Park on Long Island in 1989, and that the Brookhaven National Laboratory was involved. In 1996, he was arrested and charged with plotting to poison local politicians with radium; he was found mentally unfit to stand trial and committed to a psychiatric facility. His supporters say he was framed. The Long Island crash claims remain unconfirmed.
