At the 2004 UFO Crash Retrieval Conference in Las Vegas, researcher Ryan Wood claimed in a talk on UFO-related deaths that a Marconi director who died in 1988 had been working on a cross-universe communications system and was seen as a leak concerning a simple, self-sustaining and unlimited power source. Wood's slides attributed these claims to "RV answers" — information obtained by remote viewing.[1]

Wood's presentation, "Murder and Majestic 12: An Investigation of UFO-Related Deaths", was published in the conference proceedings. Its slides listed a "John Ferry", described as a Marconi director and former Army brigadier, married with four children, who died in August 1988 when he was electrocuted in his flat, the day after narrowly escaping death when a runaway lorry hit his car. The "RV answer" given was that he had been working on an "instantaneous, transverse-complex, cross-universe communications transmission system". The same talk offered remote-viewing explanations for the deaths of British MP Martin Redmond and President John F. Kennedy.[1]

Between 1982 and 1990 about 25 British scientists and engineers connected with GEC-Marconi, many working on defence projects such as the Sting Ray torpedo and work related to the U.S. Strategic Defense Initiative, died in circumstances that attracted press attention and conspiracy theories. Most deaths were ruled suicides or accidents, and police found them unconnected, though some received open verdicts. Brigadier Peter Ferry, who had worked on a new gun project and sat on a NATO industrial advisory group, died by electrocution in August 1988 in a death recorded as suicide; contemporary reports also called him John Ferry.[2][3]

The claim that the director was working on exotic communications or energy technology derives from remote viewing, which reviewers of the government's programme concluded never produced reliable intelligence. No documents support it.[1][2]
