In 1978, Stratton raised concerns about reports of unknown aircraft and helicopters flying over Strategic Air Command bases near nuclear weapons storage areas, following the 1975 incidents at Loring, Wurtsmith and Malmstrom. He pressed the Air Force for explanations about base security. The episode is often cited by researchers on UFOs and nuclear weapons.
