The New York Times is a major American newspaper. Its 16 December 2017 article by Helene Cooper, Ralph Blumenthal and Leslie Kean revealed the Pentagon's AATIP program and published Navy videos of unidentified objects, starting the modern UAP era.
Later reporting
The same team reported pilot encounters in 2019 and claims about recovered materials in 2020. Their reports prompted congressional interest, the UAP Task Force and the 2021 intelligence report. Critics have questioned some sourcing, but the reports changed how the subject was covered by mainstream media.
