Mike Rounds (born 1954) is a Republican United States senator from South Dakota, in office since 2015, and a former governor of the state (2003–2011). He co-authored the UAP Disclosure Act with Chuck Schumer and has been a leading Senate advocate of releasing government records on unidentified anomalous phenomena.[1][2]
The UAP Disclosure Act
In July 2023 Rounds and Schumer proposed the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Disclosure Act as an amendment to the defence bill. It would have created a National Archives collection of UAP records, an independent review board, and powers to take over any recovered "technologies of unknown origin" held by private contractors. The Senate adopted it, but much of it was removed in final negotiations with the House; a reduced records collection became law in December 2023.[2][3]
Reintroduction
Rounds, who sits on both the Senate Intelligence and Armed Services committees, filed a new version of the act on 11 July 2024 as a floor amendment to the following year's defence bill, with Schumer as lead co-sponsor. In an interview later that month he said he thought the measure had "a shot" at being included, depending on the House Intelligence Committee.[4]
The Age of Disclosure
Rounds appeared in The Age of Disclosure, a 2025 documentary in which former officials allege a government UFO cover-up and programmes to recover crashed alien technology.[1]
