The Podesta–McCasland emails are messages among Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign chairman John Podesta, musician Tom DeLonge and retired Air Force Major General William Neil McCasland, released by WikiLeaks in October 2016 among Podesta's hacked emails. They showed DeLonge arranging contact on UFO disclosure between Podesta and senior defence figures in 2015–2016.[1][2]

Podesta, a senior White House adviser to Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, had long supported releasing government UFO files and said his biggest failure under Obama was not securing their disclosure. In January 2016 Hillary Clinton said Podesta had made her promise to open files on Area 51, barring national-security threats.[2]

In an email in 2015 DeLonge offered to introduce Podesta to two "very important" senior officials. In another, dated 25 January 2016 with the subject line "General McCasland", DeLonge said he had worked with McCasland for four months and given him a four-hour presentation, and claimed that Roswell wreckage had been shipped to the laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, which McCasland had run until a couple of years earlier. McCasland, a former commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory, was described as having helped assemble DeLonge's team of advisers. The release also included an August 2015 email from Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell about extraterrestrial intelligence and "zero point energy".[1][2][3]

Email traffic suggests a Google Hangout meeting took place on the morning of 25 January 2016. A list of invitees included Podesta, DeLonge, McCasland, Clinton campaign aide Milia Fisher, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works executive Rob Weiss and retired Major General Michael Carey; McCasland's wife, astronaut Susan McCasland Wilkerson, accepted an invitation. None of the participants has confirmed who attended or what was discussed.[2][3]

The emails caused a stir because they connected a rock star, a presidential campaign chairman, retired generals and a major defence contractor on the subject of UFOs. The next year DeLonge co-founded To the Stars Academy with former government officials. McCasland later became a subject of interest in the UAP debate but has not publicly discussed UFOs. The Clinton campaign did not comment on the UFO emails and condemned Russia's alleged role in the leak.[1][4]
