George S. Trimble was an executive at the Glenn L. Martin Company, an American aircraft and missile maker that later became Martin Marietta and part of Lockheed Martin.
Gravity research
In the mid-1950s Trimble backed the company's Research Institute for Advanced Study (RIAS) in Baltimore, which hired physicists including Louis Witten to study gravity. In 1955 he was quoted in press reports, including Ansel Talbert's Herald Tribune series on gravity research, as optimistic about the field. Nick Cook's The Hunt for Zero Point argues that such public statements stopped abruptly, suggesting secret work. Trimble later worked at NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center.
