Calvin Parker (c. 1954 – 2023) was a Mississippi shipyard worker who, at the age of 17, said he and his older co-worker Charles Hickson were taken aboard a craft by three strange beings on the Pascagoula River on the night of 11 October 1973.[1][2]

The encounter

Parker said the encounter began with a whirring sound and blue lights, and that he fainted from fear when the beings approached; Hickson said Parker remained unconscious while Hickson was examined. Officers at the Jackson County sheriff's office secretly recorded the two men, and on the tape Parker can be heard in apparent distress. Unlike Hickson, Parker declined a polygraph test, and his attorney said he had recently been hospitalised.[1][3]

Later life

For decades Parker avoided publicity, saying the attention had damaged his life. In 1993 he started a company called UFO Investigations. In 2018 he published Pascagoula – The Closest Encounter: My Story, giving his own detailed account, which included claims of later experiences. He attended the dedication of a historical marker at the site on 22 June 2019. Parker died of kidney cancer in August 2023, aged 68.[1][2][4]
