Boyd Bushman (died 7 August 2014) was an American engineer, a retired senior scientist at Lockheed Martin, who in a video released after his death claimed that the U.S. government worked with aliens at Area 51. A photograph of an "alien" he displayed was soon shown to match a commercially sold toy.[1][2]
Career
Bushman worked for more than forty years in the aerospace and defence industry, for companies including Hughes Aircraft, General Dynamics, Texas Instruments and Lockheed Martin, and held a number of patents.[1]
The video
In October 2014, a few weeks after his death, a video circulated online in which Bushman, filmed shortly before he died, spoke about Area 51, UFOs, aliens and anti-gravity, and showed photographs he said were of an alien being. The video was widely shared and reported, often under headlines describing a "deathbed confession".[1][2][3]
Debunking
Internet users quickly found that the figure in his photographs closely resembled a plastic alien doll sold as a Halloween decoration, and Quebec television station TVQC reported that the toy was sold at Walmart. Fact-checkers including Snopes and The Black Vault classified the claims as a hoax. Researcher John Greenewald later obtained Bushman's FBI file, which showed that he had been investigated over contacts that raised concerns he might be sharing secrets with foreign entities; Greenewald suggested this might be relevant to his story but said it could not be confirmed.[1][2][3]
