In the 1960s and 1970s the company's Advanced Concepts group, led by Robert M. Wood, studied UFO-related physics and gravity research. Wood said the company quietly supported this work. Jacques Vallée's journals note conversations about McDonnell Douglas' interest, and it was later reported that the company had tried to win a role in government UFO research.
