UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites is a book by American researcher Robert Hastings, first published in 2008 with a second edition in 2017, arguing that UFOs have repeatedly appeared at, and interfered with, nuclear weapons sites. It is based on interviews with more than 160 military veterans.[1]
Background

Hastings's father was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, and as a teenager Hastings worked as a janitor in its air traffic control tower. He says that in March 1967 he and the controllers watched radar tracking of five unknown objects near the base's nuclear missile silos. He later spent decades interviewing former Air Force personnel about similar incidents.[1]
Claims
The book collects accounts of UFOs seen near intercontinental ballistic missile sites and weapons storage areas, including claims that missiles at Malmstrom went offline in 1967 while objects were seen nearby. Hastings argues that beings visiting Earth are monitoring the nuclear arms race and that governments have covered this up.[1][2]
2010 press conference

On 27 September 2010 Hastings hosted a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., with former Air Force officers including Robert Salas, a launch officer at Malmstrom in 1967, and Robert Jamison, a retired missile targeting officer who said he had been sent to restart missiles disabled after UFO sightings. Speakers described incidents at Malmstrom, F. E. Warren and Walker Air Force Bases and at RAF Bentwaters in England. CNN streamed the event live.[2][3]
Film and criticism
Hastings directed the 2016 documentary UFOs and Nukes: The Secret Link Revealed. Skeptic Benjamin Radford argued that the claims offered no new evidence and rehashed old reports, and reporters noted that much of the testimony was secondhand.[1][4][5]
