The Debrief is an American online news publication covering science, technology, defence and unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). Founded in late 2020 by journalists Micah Hanks, Tim McMillan and MJ Banias, it became one of the leading outlets for reporting on government UAP activity.[1][2]
Founding
Hanks, a writer and podcaster on unexplained phenomena, launched the site in 2020 with fellow journalists McMillan and Banias. Hanks became its editor-in-chief. The site describes itself as offering science, technology and defence news for the "rebelliously curious".[1][2]
UAP reporting
McMillan and Banias had already reported on UFO cases being investigated by the Pentagon's newly announced UAP Task Force. The Debrief published detailed coverage and analysis of the June 2021 U.S. intelligence report on UAP and has continued to report on Congress's UAP legislation, AARO and the testimony of whistleblowers.[1][3]
Other work
Besides UAP, the site covers physics, space exploration, aerospace and military technology, and Hanks hosts a related podcast.[1][2]
