In the 1990s the institute became a meeting point for scientists, military officers and wealthy funders interested in UFOs, consciousness research and new energy ideas. Jacques Vallée's journals describe meetings involving Petersen and people close to the Laurance Rockefeller disclosure effort. The institute has hosted conferences on unconventional science and published reports on possible "wild card" events.
