1991 in UFO history — the UAP Timeline records 16 events in 1991, mostly about beings & bodies and secrecy & cover-up. People named in these events include Leonard Stringfield, Jacques Vallée, Linda Moulton Howe, Tim Cooper, C. Richard D'Amato.
Overview
In 1991 the Roswell story gained new testimony. Retired Brigadier General Thomas DuBose, who had posed with the debris for press photographs in 1947, acknowledged that the weather-balloon explanation had been "a cover story to divert the attention of the press."[1] He said in a 16 September affidavit that information on the event was "more than" Top Secret.[2] On 6 March Jesse Marcel's son, Jesse Marcel Jr., described debris his father brought home in 1947, including thick metallic foil.[3] Ufologists cited his memory of a beam with "purple-hued hieroglyphics," but the symbols matched tape that Project Mogul had bought from a New York toy maker.[1] Other Roswell-related affidavits that year came from the wife of pilot Oliver Henderson and from radio manager George "Jud" Roberts, who said he was warned off broadcasting an interview with rancher Mac Brazel.[4][2]
The timeline's 1991 entries also include warnings from inside government. Senate Appropriations counsel Richard D'Amato, working for Senator Robert Byrd, told Jacques Vallée that "what that stealthy group is doing is a felony." He said the government could not spend money on projects Congress did not know about.[5] On 22 May Vallée wrote that Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein had given $200,000 to Robert Bigelow to fund a study of how many Americans had been abducted. See Roper Organization abduction survey. On 25 November researcher Ray Boeche met two Defense Department scientists who claimed government contractors were trying to contact and harness non-human intelligences for military purposes.[2]
Other entries are claims, including Navy petty officer Kevin Thomas's account of a black triangle rising from the sea near USS Nimitz, the "Matrix" books of "Valdamar Valerian," an alleged NRO "Blue Fire" document, and anonymous stories of bodies and craft collected by Leonard Stringfield and Tim Cooper.[5][3]
