The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is the U.S. civilian space agency, created in 1958. NASA has generally kept its distance from UFOs, but has been drawn in at several points.
Episodes

In 1977 President Carter's science adviser asked NASA to consider a new UFO study; administrator Robert Frosch declined, though he said NASA would examine genuine physical evidence. NASA's Breakthrough Propulsion Physics program (1996–2002) studied speculative ideas such as gravity control, and its 1996 announcement of possible fossils in a Martian meteorite raised public interest in alien life.
UAP study

In 2022 NASA set up an independent study team on UAP, which reported in September 2023 that better data was needed and named a director of UAP research. NASA also appears in many unverified claims, such as Gary McKinnon's statements about images at Johnson Space Center.
